Mr. Piyush Parikh moderated the event.
On the occasion, Mr. Prem Bhandari, Chairman Jaipur Foot USA spoke and gave the background on how Nikhil Mehta, a 17-year-old young high school student, and Jaipur Foot USA youth coordinator, came up with the Mobile-Van for prosthetics fitment idea to deliver prosthetics at the doorstep to help the rural differently-abled people in this COVID environment where the movements are restricted, and transportation is difficult and provided complete funding for the project.
The funding to purchase a large van, equip and install the equipment required, and power generator to power the equipment in case the village doesn’t have electricity, was provided by Nikhil Mehta and Shri Kanak Goliya, his grandfather. Shri Goliya Ji’s family has been associated with BMVSS since 1976, and they have been a regular financial contributor to the BMVSS ever since.
The Mobile Van initiative is a unique and innovative effort to address the prosthetics fitment problem for the people from the lowest economic ladder of our society by Jaipur Foot USA/BMVSS. This van is equipped with men and machines to fit artificial limbs to 7 to 10 people a day. Tomorrow, the mobile van leaves with eight highly qualified prosthetics professionals from BMVSS, Jaipur, to its first destination Vadnagar, honorable PM Shri Narendra Modi’s native village. As part of this mission, BMVSS has committed to help a minimum of 71 differently-abled people, a symbolic number to celebrate Shri Modi Ji’s 71st birthday. The Mobile-Van camp will be inaugurated by Shri Soma Bhai Modi Ji on Sept 17th, 2021, and will be held at Sarvodaya Sewa Trust, Vadnagar, the birthplace of honorable PM Shri Modi Ji.
